A 30-year-old national-level wrestler died by suicide in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district on Thursday. Her five-year-old son and one of her two-year-old twin daughters also died, while the other daughter remains critically ill and is undergoing treatment, police said.
The wrestler had been staying with her parents for around three months following a dispute with her husband and in-laws, according to a complaint filed by her father.
Her father has alleged that she faced continued harassment from her husband and in-laws over demands for money, gold and an auto-rickshaw. Police have registered a case against four people, including her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law and her husband’s paternal aunt.
According to the complaint, the woman married in 2020 and had a son in 2021, followed by twin daughters in 2024. Her family alleged that the harassment began after the birth of the daughters. Although she moved to her parents’ home three months ago, the alleged harassment reportedly continued through phone calls.
The father told reporters that he believed an incident during the previous week may have contributed to her death and demanded strict action against those named in the complaint.
Police have booked all four accused and are investigating the allegations and circumstances surrounding the deaths.
