NEW DELHI: A day after a power failure disrupted NEET-PG 2026 at two examination centres in Jaipur, a similar incident affected the AIIMS Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) 2026 at the same centres, prompting AIIMS to cancel the test and schedule a fresh examination for September 7.
The disruption occurred barely 24 hours after the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare formed a three-member committee to investigate the power failure during NEET-PG at the Jaipur centres. The same TCS-operated iON Digital Zone facility in Sitapura experienced another power supply issue during Monday’s AIIMS CRE examination.
The examination began at 9 am as scheduled but was disrupted by an internal power supply failure at centres RJ0101 and RJ0102. AIIMS said it cancelled the examination at both centres to protect the interests of affected candidates and ensure the integrity and fairness of the test.
A total of 2,000 candidates were registered at the two centres. Of these, 1,342 candidates at RJ0101 and 436 at RJ0102 had appeared for the examination before the disruption. All affected candidates will now have to retake the test on September 7.
AIIMS said suitable examination centres in Jaipur were being identified to accommodate the candidates, either at a single venue or in smaller groups.
Nationwide, 21,098 candidates had registered for the first shift of the CRE on August 31, with 16,193 appearing for the examination. The test proceeded as scheduled at all other centres.
AIIMS has asked TCS to submit a detailed report on the incident. The examination service provider has also been directed to preserve relevant system logs, CCTV footage and control-room communications to enable a comprehensive assessment of the circumstances surrounding the disruption.
The CRE is conducted to recruit candidates for Group B and Group C posts across AIIMS and other Central government and autonomous healthcare institutions. The 2026 examination covers posts such as Junior Administrative Assistant, Senior Administrative Assistant, Data Entry Operator, Personal Assistant, Stenographer, Private Secretary, Assistant Security Officer, Receptionist, Junior Medical Records Officer, Junior Warden, Hostel Warden, Telephone Operator and Social Security Officer.
The CRE 2026 is being held from August 31 to September 1 in three shifts. The schedule allows candidates who have applied for multiple posts to appear for all examinations for which they are eligible.
A total of 30,142 candidates have registered for the recruitment examination.
