The State of Palestine has welcomed India’s renewed commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, including the establishment of three major development projects and continued backing for a negotiated two-state solution.
The announcement was made by External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar during the launch of India’s campaign for election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2028–2029 term. The projects follow India’s commitments made at the Palestine Donor Group meeting in Brussels.
The three proposed initiatives include a speciality hospital, an artificial limb fitment centre and a vocational training institute.
In a statement issued on July 15, the Embassy of the State of Palestine in New Delhi described India’s announcement as an important step towards assisting Palestinians, particularly those affected by the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The embassy said the initiatives come at a time when Palestinians are facing severe humanitarian and economic challenges, with Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure having suffered extensive damage during the ongoing conflict.
It noted that hospitals and medical facilities have been damaged or rendered inoperable, while shortages of medicines and medical supplies have further complicated access to healthcare. The embassy also highlighted the urgent rehabilitation needs of Palestinians who have lost limbs and require prosthetic services and long-term medical support.
According to the embassy, the proposed speciality hospital and artificial limb fitment centre could help strengthen healthcare services and expand rehabilitation support for those most severely affected by the crisis.
The vocational training institute, meanwhile, is expected to provide young Palestinians with skills and training that could contribute to rebuilding communities and supporting economic recovery once reconstruction efforts advance.
The Palestinian Embassy also welcomed India’s reaffirmation of its support for a negotiated two-state solution, the State of Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations, and continued humanitarian and development assistance.
“India can be pivotal in peace and the two-state solution,” the Palestinian side said, while expressing appreciation for New Delhi’s longstanding friendship and support.
The embassy thanked the Government and people of India for their continued humanitarian assistance and commitment to peace, justice, international law and the two-state solution.
