GURGAON: A live worm was allegedly found in food served at an upscale restaurant in Gurgaon, triggering concerns over hygiene standards after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
The incident took place at Paul restaurant at One Horizon Centre on Golf Course Road, where customer Sulabh Mathur had gone for breakfast with friends at around 11am on Sunday, PTI reported.
According to Mathur, he had eaten nearly half of his sandwich when he noticed a live white worm crawling inside the meat.
Mathur recorded a video of the food and posted it on Instagram. In the caption accompanying the video, he described the incident as “truly shocking” and said it had occurred at the restaurant in Gurgaon’s Horizon Centre.
The video quickly gained traction on social media and had received more than 1.3 million views at the time of writing.
Several users criticised the restaurant management and questioned hygiene standards at the high-end establishment.
The restaurant management later apologised to Mathur, who also shared a screenshot of the apology on social media.
Repeated attempts to contact the restaurant management for a response were unsuccessful.
A senior official from the food and supplies department said no formal complaint had been received so far. However, the department was examining the matter independently.
