NEW DELHI: Students protesting alleged irregularities in Jharkhand’s recruitment examinations have rejected the Hemant Soren-led government’s claim that it has accepted 98% of their demands, saying only three of the 13 exams they sought to have cancelled have been scrapped.
The protesters accused the JMM-led government of “spreading lies” and said they would continue their peaceful and democratic agitation. They have also announced a ‘Vidhan Sabha March’ on Monday, urging students, political parties and members of the public to join the protest.
Addressing a press conference, a student leader said, “The Jharkhand government is spreading lies that it fulfilled 98 per cent of our demands. It cancelled only three of the 13 exams sought by us.”
The students are demanding a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in all recruitment examinations conducted by the state. Student leader Ravindra Paswan accused the government of insisting on a CID investigation, which he claimed had a reputation for “cover-ups”.
The protesters said they would maintain peace and warned that they would not allow anti-social elements to disrupt the agitation. They also appealed to parents to support their children and urged political parties to extend moral support without bringing political banners into the protest.
The agitation entered its 17th day on Monday.
