A former TISS student, Abhirup Paul, 32, was arrested on Friday after a court rejected his anticipatory bail plea in connection with an unauthorised campus event held last year to pay tribute to former Delhi University professor G N Saibaba. The bail pleas of two former TISS students had been rejected earlier. Paul was produced before a court on Saturday and remanded in police custody until Monday.
Krishna image on Bengal Assembly website sparks row
An image of Lord Krishna, accompanied by a religious-philosophical message, appearing on the official website of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly has triggered a political controversy. Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh questioned whether religious imagery associated with a particular faith should feature on the digital platform of a government institution. Visitors to the website found the image alongside photographs of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Speaker Rathindra Bose. The message accompanying the image focused on the harmful effects of anger.
Bihar sets up panels for education reforms
In response to recent Gen-Z and student-led protests, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Sunday announced the formation of a state examination reform committee aimed at making examinations more transparent, fair and technology-driven.
A separate panel will work on standardising primary and secondary education, while ‘Sahyog Shivirs’ will provide a platform for direct dialogue between students and the government.
Security guard held for raping student on terrace
A security guard allegedly raped a 22-year-old student on the terrace of a building in Jodhpur late Saturday after restraining her with a wire around her neck, police said. The accused, Dharm Singh, 27, a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi, was arrested from Hebatpur early Sunday, Anandnagar police said.
Police said the accused fled after locking the woman on the terrace. She raised an alarm, following which local residents rescued her.
Three held in Agniveer recruitment racket
Patiala police have busted a recruitment racket allegedly targeting Agniveer aspirants in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and arrested three suspects.
The racket came to light following inputs from military intelligence about touts allegedly operating during an Agniveer recruitment rally held in Patiala on August 3. Police are investigating the network and its alleged links to recruitment candidates.
