A 40-year-old software engineer was arrested after allegedly firing an air gun from the balcony of his apartment in Anekal taluk, Bengaluru, in the early hours of Thursday. The incident damaged several parked vehicles and reportedly endangered security guards, though no injuries were reported.
The accused, Anurag Tiwari, a resident of Sipani Apartments near Bandapura and an employee of a private IT company in Whitefield, allegedly fired pellets from his third-floor balcony for nearly 45 minutes after reportedly consuming alcohol.
Residents, alarmed by the repeated gunfire, alerted the police. Security guards who responded to the disturbance were allegedly targeted, while multiple parked vehicles sustained damage after their window glasses were shattered by the pellets.
Police arrived at the scene soon after receiving the complaint and took the accused into custody. Investigators recovered several air gun pellets from the parking area, seized the weapon, and collected forensic evidence for examination.
Authorities have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine whether the air gun was legally possessed and if additional charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and laws governing air weapons are applicable.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, but the episode has raised concerns about public safety in residential communities.
