The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was up for a fifth straight session on Wednesday, climbing by 4.3% to its highest since June 3 at 3,063 points, mainly supported by the larger segments.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, surged by 6.6% to a peak since June 3 at 5,094 points; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by 2.2% to its highest since July 17 at 2,236 points.

On the other hand, the supramax index fell by 0.1% to 1,612 points.
