Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has suspended a bus conductor pending a departmental inquiry after a viral video allegedly showed him pushing a passenger out of a bus and physically assaulting him.
The incident reportedly occurred on August 2 and gained widespread attention after the video circulated on social media.
In a statement, BMTC said it had taken serious note of the footage, which purportedly shows the conductor forcing a passenger off the bus and assaulting him while on duty.
“The video has received widespread circulation on social media and has raised public concern. BMTC has initiated immediate action,” the transport corporation said.
As a preliminary administrative measure, the conductor has been placed under suspension pending a departmental inquiry. BMTC clarified that the suspension is intended to facilitate a fair and impartial investigation and does not prejudge the outcome of the inquiry.
The corporation said the investigation will examine statements from the conductor, the passenger involved, eyewitnesses, available CCTV footage from the bus, and any other relevant evidence before arriving at a conclusion.
Reiterating its commitment to passenger safety and professional conduct, BMTC said it follows a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct, discourteous behaviour, or any action that compromises the dignity, safety, or rights of passengers.
The corporation added that if the allegations are substantiated during the inquiry, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the employee in accordance with applicable service rules and regulations.
