NEW DELHI: Personnel from the Indian armed forces contributed nearly half of India’s medal tally at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, winning 18 of the country’s 39 medals, or about 46% of the overall haul.
The Indian Army accounted for 16 medals, including eight gold, seven silver and one bronze, while two Indian Navy personnel added silver medals to India’s tally.
In a post on X, the Army congratulated its athletes, saying, “Har Kaam, Desh Ke Naam. General Dhiraj Seth, COAS, and all ranks of the Indian Army extend heartiest congratulations to the Indian Army athletes for their outstanding performance at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026.”
The Army said its contingent of 20 athletes delivered medal-winning performances across judo, boxing, athletics, para athletics and weightlifting, describing the results as a reflection of the force’s commitment to developing elite sportspersons under its Mission Olympics 2036 initiative.
The Army’s eight gold medals were won by Havildar Harsh (judo, 60kg), Naib Subedar Preeti (boxing, 54kg), Naib Subedar Jaismine (boxing, 57kg), Subedar Soman Rana (para shot put), Havildar Sakshi (boxing, 51kg), Havildar Arundhati (boxing, 70kg), Havildar Sachin (boxing, 60kg) and Havildar Ankush (boxing, 80kg).
Silver medals were claimed by Naib Subedar Sarvesh (high jump), Naib Subedar Gulveer (10,000m), Havildar Ajaya Babu (weightlifting), Honorary Lieutenant Colonel Neeraj Chopra (javelin throw), Havildar Jadumani (boxing), Lance Naik Shubham Juyal (para shot put) and Subedar Narender (boxing, +90kg). Naib Subedar Gulveer also secured a bronze medal in the 5,000m event.
The Indian Navy contributed two silver medals through Chief Petty Officer (Communication) Lovepreet Singh and Chief Petty Officer (PT) Chanambam Rishikanta Singh, both in weightlifting.
Congratulating Lovepreet Singh, the Navy said he lifted a total of 388kg—comprising a 176kg snatch and 212kg clean and jerk—to win silver in the +110kg category. His 176kg snatch also set a new Commonwealth Games record, the Navy said.
