A 16-year-old Class 9 student was killed after being struck by a goods train while walking along railway tracks in Faridabad’s Ballabgarh on Wednesday night. Police believe the teenager was unable to hear the approaching train because he was wearing earphones.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m. near Prahaladpur village. The victim, identified as Sagar, was a resident of Bhawan Nagla Hasanpur village in Palwal district and had been visiting his maternal grandparents in Prahaladpur.
According to police, a power outage in the village prompted Sagar to go for a walk with a few local children. While walking along the railway tracks and listening to music through earphones, he reportedly failed to hear the horn of an approaching goods train. The train struck him from behind, and he died on the spot.
Police reached the scene after receiving information about the accident and sent the body for a post-mortem examination. The body was later handed over to the family.
Inspector Prakash Chand, Station House Officer of Sadar Ballabgarh Police Station, urged people to stay away from railway tracks and avoid using earphones while near railway lines.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of walking on or near railway tracks, particularly while using headphones or earphones that can block surrounding sounds.
