The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday accused authorities of violating the agreement reached with the Centre by allegedly detaining and arresting student protesters in several states, particularly Assam, Bihar and West Bengal. The organisation warned that it would resume nationwide protests if the alleged police action does not stop.
The issue comes days after the CJP called off its protest at Jantar Mantar following talks with the Centre. The decision was based on three key demands: withdrawal of all FIRs and legal cases against protesters, the resignation of former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and ₹1 crore compensation for the families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide.
CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka alleged that the Centre had failed to honour its commitment to halt police action. He demanded the immediate release of detained students, withdrawal of all FIRs and a written agreement outlining the government’s commitments and timelines.
Later in the day, Ranka and fellow spokesperson Saurav Das addressed a press conference alongside senior advocate Kapil Sibal. They said the Centre had assured them that existing FIRs would be withdrawn and no fresh cases would be registered against protesters. According to the CJP, a draft agreement had already been shared with Union ministers, and both sides were expected to finalise the document by Tuesday.
The organisation warned that if the written assurance is not provided and detained protesters are not released, it would be forced to return to the streets.
Meanwhile, the Bihar government announced that no legal action would be taken against individuals who participated in protests before 6 pm on July 26.
During the meeting with CJP leaders on Saturday, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda had stated that no further action should be taken against protesters and that any FIRs already registered by the Delhi Police or BJP-ruled states would be withdrawn. The CJP now claims that the implementation of those assurances remains incomplete.
