Russia launched one of its largest overnight assaults on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, firing more than 40 missiles and around 120 drones, killing one person and injuring at least 16 others, Ukrainian officials said.

The attack began around 1:30 a.m. and lasted several hours, with air defence systems working to intercept the barrage. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said most of the missiles were directed at Kyiv, describing the assault as one of the largest ballistic missile attacks on the capital. Nearly 600 emergency responders were deployed for rescue and relief operations.

According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, the strikes triggered fires in at least five districts of Kyiv, damaging residential buildings, office and industrial facilities, a student dormitory, and several vehicles. Rescue teams continue to assess the damage and assist those affected.
