India marked two major technological milestones within 48 hours with the successful launch of Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-1 rocket and the inauguration of the country’s first hydrogen-powered passenger train, highlighting significant progress in space technology and sustainable transport.
The Vikram-1 mission became India’s first privately developed orbital rocket launch, successfully placing its payloads into a 450-km orbit. The mission also showcased advanced technologies, including a 3D-printed rocket engine, reflecting the rapid growth of India’s private space sector.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the country’s first hydrogen-powered passenger train on the Jind–Sonipat route in Haryana. Powered by hydrogen fuel cells that emit only water vapour, the train marks a major step towards cleaner, low-carbon rail transport and places India among a select group of nations operating hydrogen-powered trains.
