The monsoon death toll in Maharashtra’s Vasai-Virar has climbed to 10 after five more bodies were recovered from different locations over the past two days, following days of relentless rain and widespread flooding.
Heavy rainfall last week caused severe flooding across the twin cities, with overflowing drains, lakes and reservoirs posing serious risks to residents. Authorities believe most of the victims either drowned or were swept away by strong floodwaters.
On Friday, four bodies were recovered, including those of 32-year-old Pradeep Kumar Gautam, who had been missing since July 8, and 43-year-old Nilesh Singh, reported missing on July 9. Two unidentified men were also found in separate locations near Diwanman and the Vasai Fort jetty.
On Saturday, officials recovered the body of another unidentified man, believed to be around 55 years old, from the Papadkhind Dam in Virar.
Authorities continue search and recovery operations while urging residents to remain cautious around water bodies as monsoon conditions persist.
