NEW DELHI: Booking train tickets through the IRCTC website is set to become faster and more user-friendly, with the Railways announcing that the beta version of a revamped portal will be launched soon.
According to the Railway Board, the redesigned website will feature a cleaner interface, eliminating unnecessary captchas, pop-ups, flashing graphics and other distractions to simplify the ticket booking experience.
The beta version will also introduce several functional improvements, including the display of seat availability across all coach classes on a single screen, a streamlined checkout process with fewer booking steps, and the option to save passenger details to make repeat bookings quicker.
Officials from the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) met students of Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, on Friday to gather feedback ahead of the rollout.
The revamp follows suggestions made by MNIT students a few weeks ago, when they highlighted usability issues with the existing website. The Railways had subsequently committed to redesigning the portal, with the upgraded beta version now nearing launch.
