US President Donald Trump warned Iran that “it will become much worse” after the US military launched a fresh wave of strikes in response to attacks on cargo ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
“This is in retaliation for attacks on cargo ships by Iran. If it happens again, it will get much worse!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
The statement came after the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced additional strikes against Iran over what it described as Tehran’s “unjustified aggression” in the Strait of Hormuz.
“At the direction of the Commander in Chief, US Central Command forces have started conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM said in a post on X.
The command added that the United States was holding Iran accountable for what it described as recent attacks on commercial shipping and civilian crews navigating the strategic waterway.
The latest military action followed earlier US strikes on military sites and port facilities after Washington accused Iran of targeting several merchant vessels off the coast of Oman.
Iranian state media reported explosions in the port city of Bandar Abbas, located on the Strait of Hormuz, as well as in the southern coastal city of Sirik.
Earlier, Trump said the US would likely carry out further strikes against Iran but suggested that the latest exchange of attacks would not result in long-term military action.
“Anything that happens is going to happen very fast,” Trump said, adding that the US military might “just finish the job.”
Trump also renewed previous threats to target Iran’s civilian infrastructure, including electricity and desalination facilities, and to seize the country’s key oil-production hub on Kharg Island.
