SRINAGAR: Ahead of its proposed protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on July 20, the ruling National Conference (NC) on Tuesday stepped up its campaign for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood by convening a meeting of civil society representatives in Srinagar.
The meeting, chaired by NC president Farooq Abdullah and attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, concluded with the adoption of a resolution urging the Union government to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without further delay.
According to an NC spokesperson, more than 150 representatives from different sections of civil society participated in the meeting. “The gathering unanimously adopted a resolution calling upon the Union government to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without any further delay. The resolution reflects the collective and unanimous voice of the civil society representatives present at the meeting,” the spokesperson said.
Speaking after the interaction, Omar Abdullah described the discussions as productive, saying participants offered several constructive suggestions and valuable feedback.
The National Conference had announced on June 3 that it would hold a one-day protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on the opening day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session to press for the early restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
