MEERUT: A dispute over the ownership of a recently purchased property allegedly turned fatal in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district on Friday after a 45-year-old beautician and social media influencer was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband, police said.
The victim, Nisha Chauhan, was attacked at her residence in Harra town under the Sarurpur police station limits. According to police, her husband, Pradeep Kumar, allegedly stabbed her multiple times following an argument over the registration of a plot of land.
The couple had been married for nearly 18 years and have three children. Pradeep, who had worked as an AC mechanic in Dubai, returned to India about a year ago.
According to Sarurpur SHO Gaurav Singh, the couple began arguing around 6 a.m. over the registration of the newly purchased property. Nisha reportedly wanted the land registered in her name, claiming she had contributed the larger share of the payment. Police said Pradeep allegedly became suspicious of her intentions and accused her of planning to take ownership of the property.
Following the argument, Pradeep allegedly went upstairs, retrieved a kitchen knife and attacked Nisha, inflicting multiple stab wounds to her neck and wrist, police said.
The couple’s 17-year-old son attempted to intervene but was injured during the assault. He then ran to seek help from neighbours. By the time they arrived, police said, Nisha had been stabbed multiple times, while Pradeep had also inflicted stab wounds on himself in the chest and abdomen in an apparent suicide attempt.
Nisha succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while Pradeep was taken to hospital, where he remains under treatment.
Circle Officer (Sardhana) Ashutosh Kumar said police and forensic teams reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. Preliminary findings indicate the dispute over registering the property in either spouse’s name triggered the attack.
Nisha’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and police have launched an investigation into the case.
