The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) temporarily evacuated its Bengaluru campus on Thursday after receiving an email claiming that explosive devices had been planted inside the premises. The threat prompted an immediate security response, with police, bomb disposal experts, and sniffer dog squads conducting a thorough search of the facility.
The operation, carried out at ISRO’s campus on New BEL Road, covered offices, laboratories, and other buildings. After extensive inspections, officials confirmed that no explosives or suspicious objects were found, indicating that the threat was a hoax.
According to Bengaluru North Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Babasab Nemagouda, police acted swiftly upon receiving the alert from ISRO authorities. A case has been registered at the Sanjaynagar Police Station, while cybercrime experts are working to trace the origin of the threatening email.
Investigators are examining digital evidence, including the email’s technical details, to identify the sender. Authorities are also exploring a possible connection between this incident and a series of recent hoax bomb threats targeting government offices, courts, and educational institutions across Karnataka.
Police suspect that the same individual or group could be behind multiple anonymous emails sent in recent weeks. The investigation remains ongoing as security agencies continue efforts to track down those responsible.
