New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged newly inducted IAS officers to regularly evaluate whether government policies are delivering tangible results on the ground, stressing that citizens must remain at the heart of governance.
Addressing 183 officer trainees from the IAS 2024 batch, who are currently serving as Assistant Secretaries in various ministries and departments, Modi said every administrative file represents the hopes, concerns and lives of countless citizens.
According to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), he advised officers to always consider the human impact behind every decision. “Every file reflects the aspirations, concerns and lives of innumerable citizens,” the PM said.
Highlighting the importance of collaborative governance, Modi noted that developmental challenges cannot be addressed in isolation and called for stronger coordination among departments to achieve meaningful outcomes.
He told the trainees that, after two years of field experience and administrative learning, they are at a crucial stage where their decisions will influence not only their own careers but also the lives of crores of people. The PM emphasised that the true test of public service lies in handling real-life situations with integrity, sensitivity and dedication.
Underscoring the value of data-driven governance, Modi said data should not be viewed merely as numbers but as a reflection of the lives, challenges and aspirations of millions of citizens.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the increasing role of women in nation-building, noting that women constitute more than 40 per cent of the current IAS batch.
