Police have registered a case against the driver of a BMW involved in a high-speed crash on the under-construction Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Badlapur that claimed the lives of two passengers.
According to investigators, the luxury vehicle was travelling at nearly 251 kilometres per hour when it lost control and crashed into a divider in the early hours of June 21. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was torn apart, with its engine found approximately 30 metres away from the main wreckage.
The accident occurred around 2:39 am on a section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway that has not yet been opened to public traffic.
Police said the force of the collision reduced the BMW to a mangled heap of metal and scattered vehicle components across a considerable stretch of the roadway. Preliminary findings indicate that excessive speed was a major factor in the crash.
The driver, identified as Angad Gill, has been booked in connection with the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full sequence of events leading to the fatal accident.
The tragedy has once again highlighted concerns over reckless driving and overspeeding, particularly on high-speed expressways and restricted road sections where safety infrastructure may still be under development.
Officials are examining technical evidence, vehicle data and witness accounts as part of the ongoing inquiry into one of the most severe road accidents reported on the expressway in recent months.
