A chilling murder case in West Delhi has been solved after police arrested a man and his wife for allegedly strangling the man’s elder brother to death and disposing of his body in a plastic sack filled with mattresses and blankets.
The victim’s decomposed body was discovered on April 4 outside a factory gate on Rama Road in Moti Nagar. Police found the body wrapped in two mattresses and two blankets, with the legs tied using a mobile phone charger cable. A post-mortem examination later confirmed that the victim had died due to manual strangulation and a head injury, indicating homicide.
Investigators launched an extensive probe, examining footage from more than 300 CCTV cameras and conducting searches across multiple locations. Their efforts eventually led them to identify the deceased as Amit Kumar and trace the crime to a rented accommodation in Indrapuri, Loni, Ghaziabad.
According to police, the rented house was occupied by Amit’s younger brother, Gopal (32), and his wife, Soma alias Seema (35). Forensic teams recovered blood-stained evidence from the premises, strengthening suspicions that the murder took place there before the body was transported and dumped in Delhi.
The accused allegedly vacated the house immediately after the crime and went into hiding. They were eventually tracked down and arrested on June 15 near a railway line in Shiv Basti on Rama Road.
During interrogation, the couple reportedly told investigators that long-standing disputes with Amit led to the murder. Police said Amit was allegedly addicted to alcohol and frequently behaved inappropriately towards Soma. He was also accused of making unreasonable demands and attempting to establish an unwanted relationship with her, resulting in repeated arguments within the family.
Investigators believe these tensions escalated over time and ultimately led to the fatal confrontation. Gopal has been placed in police custody for further questioning and recovery of evidence, while Soma has been remanded to judicial custody.
Police are continuing their investigation to establish the complete sequence of events and gather additional evidence related to the case.
