Police have registered a case against two women employees of a leading IT company in Hinjewadi and a third individual in connection with the alleged abetment of a 48-year-old IT professional’s suicide in Pune. The case was filed by the Bhosari police on June 9 following the discovery of a suicide note reportedly left by the deceased, who died at his residence on June 2. According to investigators, the note names three individuals and alleges that prolonged harassment drove him to take the extreme step.
Senior Police Inspector Sandip Ghorpade said the complaint was lodged by the victim’s 19-year-old son, who accused the three suspects of subjecting his father to sustained mental distress. Police have issued notices to the company’s human resources department, seeking an internal inquiry into the conduct of the two women employees named in the complaint. Further action, including possible arrests, will depend on the findings of the investigation.
The IT company expressed grief over the employee’s death and extended condolences to his family. In a statement, the company said it is examining the allegations against the two employees and is fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities. It also reiterated its commitment to maintaining a respectful, supportive and inclusive workplace.
According to the complaint, the victim and his family had been acquainted with a couple through social media since 2024. The situation allegedly deteriorated after marital disputes led to the couple’s separation, with the male acquaintance reportedly blaming the victim and his wife for the breakdown of the relationship.
Police said the complainant alleged that the acquaintance subsequently filed complaints of theft and cheating against the victim, sent a legal notice and circulated allegedly defamatory emails to his workplace, causing significant stress.
The complaint further accuses the two women colleagues of repeatedly humiliating the victim at work, removing him from key projects, assigning tasks outside his area of expertise and threatening negative performance reviews. The family also alleged that the women created difficulties when the victim sought leave following a family bereavement.
Investigators said the victim was already under emotional strain due to his wife’s chronic illness and that the alleged harassment worsened his mental condition. The names of all three accused reportedly appear in the suicide note recovered from his residence. Police said the investigation is ongoing and all allegations are being verified.
