The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday intensified its investigation into the alleged municipal recruitment scam by conducting searches at seven locations linked to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA and former West Bengal minister Madan Mitra.
According to officials, the raids are part of an ongoing probe into alleged irregularities in appointments to various municipal posts across the state. Investigators claim that evidence gathered so far indicates that bribes in the form of cash and gold were allegedly routed through intermediaries in exchange for facilitating the recruitment of ineligible candidates.
Sources associated with the investigation have alleged that Mitra’s name has surfaced in connection with more than 125 suspected illegal appointments, including recruitments within the Kamarhati Municipality. The ED is examining financial transactions; documents and other materials seized during the searches to determine the extent of the alleged network.
Officials said the investigation remains at a crucial stage and further details are expected to emerge as the agency scrutinises the evidence collected during the raids.
The latest action marks another significant development in the widening municipal recruitment scam probe, which has already drawn the attention of multiple investigative agencies and intensified political scrutiny in West Bengal.
