President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, describing the milestone as a reflection of the enduring trust and confidence reposed in his leadership by the people of the country.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Murmu noted that India had witnessed significant transformation across various sectors during his tenure.
“This milestone is therefore not merely a matter of the longest duration in this public office; it is an affirmation of the confidence that the people of India have reposed in your leadership,” she wrote.
The President also highlighted Modi’s focus on the welfare of marginalized communities, particularly tribal groups.
“Having witnessed the challenges faced by Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups over generations, I was deeply touched by your compassion for the marginalised sections of our society,” Murmu said.
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan also lauded the Prime Minister’s achievements, stating that India had made remarkable progress across multiple sectors under his leadership. In a post on social media, he drew a comparison between Modi and former US President Abraham Lincoln, saying that while Lincoln had freed millions from slavery, Modi had helped lift more than 25 crore people out of extreme poverty.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla likewise congratulated the Prime Minister, describing his tenure as an era marked by transformational governance, democratic strengthening, economic development, social reform, and an enhanced global standing for India.
The tributes came as Modi achieved the distinction of becoming the country’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, a milestone that leaders across constitutional offices said reflected his enduring political mandate and leadership.
