NOIDA: A car driver who successfully avoided hitting a child by applying emergency brakes was allegedly assaulted by the child’s family members in Noida’s Sector 17 after the near-miss incident triggered a heated confrontation.

Police have registered a case and launched efforts to identify and apprehend those involved in the assault.

According to officials, the incident occurred on Monday outside JJ Colony in Sector 17 when a young child suddenly ran onto the road and came directly in front of a moving vehicle.

The driver reacted quickly, applying the brakes in time and bringing the car to a halt before any collision could occur. Police confirmed that the child escaped the incident without suffering any injuries.

However, the situation reportedly escalated moments later when family members of the child, who were nearby, confronted the driver. Despite the fact that no accident had taken place, the relatives allegedly accused him of endangering the child.

Witnesses told police that the argument soon turned violent, with the group allegedly assaulting the driver and vandalising his vehicle.

During the altercation, the car’s window was smashed and the driver sustained minor injuries. The extent of the damage to the vehicle is being assessed.

A police team from Sector 20 police station reached the spot after receiving information about the disturbance. Officers intervened, dispersed the crowd and brought the situation under control.

The injured driver was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital, where he received medical treatment for his injuries.

Based on the driver’s complaint, police have registered a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to voluntarily causing hurt, mischief causing damage, intentional insult and criminal intimidation.

Investigators are currently reviewing evidence, including video footage of the incident, to identify the individuals responsible.

Meanwhile, a 37-second video purportedly showing the aftermath of the confrontation has been widely circulated on social media. The footage reportedly shows the damaged vehicle parked along the roadside near the DND stretch, with a crowd gathered around it.

The incident briefly disrupted traffic movement in the area before police restored normal flow.

Authorities said efforts are underway to trace the suspects and further investigation is in progress.

Police Reminder: Authorities have urged citizens to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to report grievances through legal channels, especially in situations involving road incidents where emotions can run high.
