A 56-year-old security officer employed with a private company has been arrested for allegedly shooting his wife and son to death at their home in Gurgaon’s Ashok Vihar Phase 3 following a heated domestic argument.
The accused, identified as Anil Tanwar, allegedly used his licensed revolver to kill his wife, 52-year-old Asha Rani Tanwar, and their son, 27-year-old Prashant Tanwar, late on Saturday night.
Family Argument Turns Fatal
According to police, the incident occurred around 11 pm at the family’s three-storey residence.
At the time of the shooting, Asha Rani and Anil were on the third floor of the house. Their daughter, who is married and was visiting her parents, was on the first floor along with Prashant and his wife.
Based on the daughter’s complaint, family members rushed upstairs after hearing a heated argument between the couple. She told investigators that she witnessed her father slap her mother as the dispute escalated.
Prashant then reportedly intervened in an attempt to calm the situation and stop the confrontation.
Wife Hit Four Times, Son Shot Seven Times
Police said Anil allegedly retrieved his licensed revolver and opened fire on both his wife and son.
Investigators said Asha Rani suffered four gunshot wounds to her hand, head and back. Prashant sustained seven bullet injuries affecting his head, face, chest, back and feet.
A total of 14 spent cartridges were recovered from the crime scene.
As gunshots echoed through the neighbourhood, residents alerted police while family members desperately tried to stop the accused.
Victims Declared Dead at Hospital
According to investigators, Prashant’s wife and other relatives attempted to intervene but retreated when the accused allegedly continued brandishing the weapon.
After Anil came downstairs, family members returned to the third floor and found both victims lying in pools of blood.
They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.
Police said the accused did not attempt to flee and remained at the residence until officers arrived.
Police Recover Weapon, Launch Investigation
Teams from the local police station, along with forensic and fingerprint experts, examined the scene and collected evidence.
The licensed revolver allegedly used in the shooting was seized, and Anil was taken into custody.
Police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said preliminary findings suggest the family had been dealing with long-standing domestic disputes.
“Initial inquiries indicate that the family had been facing disagreements for a considerable period. The son attempted to intervene during the argument between his parents but was also shot,” the spokesperson said.
Neighbours Report Frequent Arguments
Residents familiar with the family told investigators that arguments within the household were not uncommon.
Police have registered a murder case based on the complaint filed by the couple’s daughter.
The accused was produced before a local court on Sunday and remanded to two days of police custody for further questioning.
Victims Were Prominent in Local Education Sector
Asha Rani Tanwar served as principal of Lord Shiva Public School in Carterpuri village and was actively involved in the institution’s administration.
Her son Prashant assisted in managing the school and worked closely with his mother.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, which was conducted by a two-member medical board. Investigators said they are examining all aspects of the case, including the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
