Two men have been arrested in Tamil Nadu’s Tuticorin district for allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman after luring her with a false promise of employment and drugging her, police said.

The accused were identified as Balamurugan, 32, from Arumugamangalam near Srivaikuntam, and Jayapal, 34, from Ramanathapuram district.

Survivor Taken to Lodge in Ervadi

According to investigators, the two men befriended the woman, who is a resident of the Srivaikuntam area. They allegedly convinced her that they could help her secure a job and took her by car to a private lodge in Ervadi near Ramanathapuram.

Police said the accused then mixed a sedative into a drink consumed by the woman.

Assault Allegedly Took Place After Victim Lost Consciousness

Investigators allege that the woman became unconscious after consuming the drink and was sexually assaulted by the two men while in that condition.

The survivor later approached the police and filed a complaint on Saturday.

Accused Remanded to Judicial Custody

Following the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation. Both accused were arrested and produced before a magistrate on Monday.

The court remanded them to judicial custody, and they were subsequently lodged in Palayamkottai prison pending further investigation.

Investigation Underway

Police are continuing their investigation into the case, including gathering forensic and witness evidence. Authorities have not disclosed additional details about the charges or the survivor in order to protect her identity.

Under Indian law, the identity of survivors of sexual assault cannot be revealed.
