A retired deputy superintendent of police (DySP), his son and daughter were arrested in Ahmedabad a day after a shooting linked to a high-value land dispute in the city’s Nehrunagar area.
Trio Booked for Attempt to Murder
Police arrested retired DySP Ashoksinh Chauhan, his son Siddharajsinh Chauhan and daughter Khyati Chauhan. The three have been charged with attempt to murder and other offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Dramatic Scenes Inside Police Station
The arrests were followed by tense scenes at the Satellite police station, where the retired officer and his family protested the police action.
Videos circulating on social media showed police personnel escorting the accused towards the lock-up amid heated arguments and resistance.
Family Claims Firing Was in Self-Defence
Chauhan alleged that “goons” had illegally occupied his land and accused police of acting on a one-sided version of events.
His family maintained that the firing occurred in self-defence during a confrontation related to the disputed property.
Police Seek Seven-Day Remand
Investigators have sought a seven-day remand of the accused as they continue probing both the firing incident and the underlying land dispute, which is reportedly valued at around ₹500 crore.
Businessman Alleges Multiple Rounds Were Fired
According to an FIR registered at Satellite police station, businessman Amit Patel alleged that Chauhan fired multiple rounds from his licensed pistol during a confrontation involving members of a partnership firm operating the Nehrunagar Patharanaa Bazar.
The dispute reportedly centres on a five-bigha land parcel near the Nehrunagar bus stand.
Civil Dispute Over Commercial Property
Police said several businessmen had invested in the property and established temporary stalls on the land under a commercial arrangement.
The conflict intensified after civic authorities raised objections to property documents, prompting both sides to pursue legal remedies through the courts.
FIR Details Sequence of Events
The complaint alleges that Chauhan’s sons and daughter initially arrived at the site, verbally abused the businessmen and issued threats.
Shortly afterwards, Chauhan allegedly arrived in a luxury vehicle carrying a pistol.
Five Rounds Allegedly Fired
According to the FIR, Chauhan first fired three rounds near the feet of the complainant and others present at the scene.
He is then accused of firing two additional rounds in the direction of the complainant and another businessman.
No Injuries Reported
The complainant claimed he narrowly escaped being struck by the bullets. Police confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident.
Investigation Ongoing
Police are examining witness statements, video evidence and the circumstances surrounding the land dispute as part of their ongoing investigation. The court will decide on the police request for custodial remand of the accused.
