AHMEDABAD: Police have registered a murder case against a woman in Gujarat’s Valsad district for allegedly poisoning and strangling her three children before attempting suicide by consuming phenyl, officials said on Wednesday.

The woman is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

According to Valsad deputy superintendent of police (DSP) JK Patel, police received information about the deaths following which an investigation was launched.

“We got information that a woman has killed her children. Upon investigation, we found that an altercation between the husband and wife followed after he discovered his wife’s affair,” DSP Patel said.

Police said the incident occurred after a domestic dispute between the couple when the husband allegedly came to know about his wife’s extramarital relationship.

During the investigation, officials found that the woman had allegedly forced the children to consume phenyl before attempting to take her own life using the same substance.

“She had made her children consume phenyl and did the same herself. We found her in an unconscious state and admitted her to a hospital. Further investigation is underway,” DSP Patel added.

Officials said the woman was discovered unconscious and rushed to a hospital for medical treatment.

Police have registered a case of murder and further investigation into the incident is underway.
