A powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck northern Chile on Monday, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake hit the Atacama desert region, around 31 kilometres from the town of Calama, at a depth of nearly 100 kilometres.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage following the earthquake.
Chile is among the world’s most seismically active countries due to its location along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” a region known for frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity.
