An FIR has been registered after a 36-year-old pregnant woman accused a male employee at a private hospital in Bengaluru of allegedly attempting to secretly photograph or film her inside a restroom, police said on Monday.
The incident reportedly took place on May 21 at a hospital located on Sarjapur Road.
According to the woman’s complaint, she became suspicious after noticing the staff member allegedly behaving unusually while she was inside the washroom. Police said she suspected the accused may have tried to capture her photos or videos using a mobile phone while she was in the restroom.
When she confronted him, the accused allegedly fled the spot.
In her complaint, the woman said the incident left her distressed and traumatised, particularly as she is pregnant. She also sought legal action against both the accused employee and the hospital management.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the staff member and the hospital administration under Sections 77 (voyeurism), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 62 (attempt to commit offences) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.
During the preliminary investigation, police said no alleged photos or videos were found on the accused’s mobile phone.
Officials added that notices have been issued to both the accused and the hospital administration. The mobile phone has been seized and sent for forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
