A man’s body was discovered inside a sack near the Aami river in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district on Monday morning, with his hands and legs tied and his throat slit, police said.
According to officials, villagers spotted the sack lying near the riverbank close to the Semrahwa Baba temple in Bharsand around 7 am and informed the police.
When officers opened the sack, they found the body of a man believed to be around 30 years old. Injury marks were visible on his neck, and ropes had been used to tie his hands and legs.
Police suspect the victim may have been murdered elsewhere before the body was dumped near the riverbank in an attempt to conceal his identity and mislead investigators.
A police team along with forensic experts reached the spot and began collecting evidence from the area. Investigators are also examining missing persons reports from nearby villages and police stations to identify the deceased.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Gyanendra Nath Prasad said further action would be taken based on the post-mortem findings and ongoing investigation. Police said all possible angles in the case are being examined.
