FARIDABAD: A 21-year-old volleyball player from Rajasthan was allegedly kidnapped, tied up and beaten to death by the family members of a minor girl he was reportedly in a relationship with, police officials said on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Monu, was a resident of Saidpur village in Rajasthan’s Bhiwadi. The minor girl involved in the case is from Faridabad, police said.
Based on a complaint filed by Monu’s family, Faridabad Police have registered an FIR and detained two suspects for questioning.
According to the complaint, Monu was allegedly abducted by the girl’s family after leaving home on May 17. His relatives claimed he was confined inside a house for three days, tied up, starved and subjected to continuous physical assault.
The family further alleged that he was later dumped outside the house in a critically injured condition.
Police said Monu was taken to a hospital for treatment, where he later died.
Narender Kumar, Monu’s uncle, said the young man was a promising volleyball player who had won several state-level medals and had recently passed Class 12 with 70 per cent marks.
He added that a kidnapping case involving the minor girl had earlier been registered against Monu at Tigaon police station in April. The girl was later recovered, and police investigation in that matter was ongoing.
“On May 17, Monu left home saying the police had called him for questioning. During this time, the girl’s family abducted him from the road,” Kumar alleged.
“He was tortured from May 17 to May 20. Later, they threw him out of the house. The same day, police informed us that Monu was injured and had been taken to hospital. We rushed there, but he died on Friday,” he said.
A Faridabad Police spokesperson confirmed that a case had been registered and the matter was under investigation.
“Two suspects have been detained and are being questioned,” the official said.
