Police in Punjab on Friday arrested a man from Pathankot on charges of allegedly spying for Pakistan-based handlers and sharing information related to the movement of Indian security forces.

The accused, identified as Baljit Singh, is a resident of Chakk Dhariwal village in Pathankot.

CCTV Camera Allegedly Used To Monitor Army Movement

According to investigators, Baljit Singh had installed a CCTV camera at a shop near a bridge on National Highway-44.

Police alleged that the camera was strategically placed to monitor the movement of Army and paramilitary personnel along the Pathankot–Jammu route and that the live feed was being transmitted to handlers based in Pakistan.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted to installing the internet-enabled CCTV camera in January on the Pathankot–Jammu stretch of NH-44.

Police said the accused was also receiving instructions from an unidentified individual based in Dubai.

Investigators alleged that Baljit Singh had been paid Rs 40,000 for carrying out the surveillance activities.

The CCTV camera used in the operation has been recovered from his possession.

Earlier ISI-Linked Espionage Modules Busted

The arrest comes a month after police claimed to have uncovered two espionage modules allegedly backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence.

According to officials, those networks had used China-made, solar-powered CCTV cameras to relay live footage of sensitive military installations to handlers across the border.
