Bengaluru witnessed heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, causing severe waterlogging and massive traffic snarls across several parts of the city on Tuesday.

The sudden downpour disrupted peak-hour movement, leaving commuters stranded on flooded roads and slowing traffic across major junctions.

Key Areas Hit by Flooding

Among the worst-affected locations were Majestic, Shivajinagar, KR Market, Rajajinagar and Vasanth Nagar, where overflowing drains and submerged roads brought traffic to a near standstill.

Several underpasses and internal roads were inundated, forcing motorists to take diversions and worsening congestion across the city.

Heavy Showers Lash North Karnataka

Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning was also reported from Hubballi and Dharwad in north Karnataka.

Residents in the region reported brief flooding on low-lying roads after intense showers lashed the area.

Flight Operations Affected

Amid deteriorating weather conditions, airline major IndiGo said flight schedules to and from Bengaluru had been impacted.

“Bad weather over Bengaluru has impacted flight schedules. We are closely monitoring the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly,” the airline said in a statement.

Rain Brings Relief, Exposes Civic Challenges

While the showers offered temporary relief from the summer heat, they also highlighted Bengaluru’s recurring monsoon challenges.

Clogged drains, inadequate rainwater management and poor urban drainage infrastructure once again resulted in widespread waterlogging and traffic disruption across the city.
