Samsung Heavy Industries said on the 18th that it won an order worth 1.1242 trillion won for three liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from a shipping company in Oceania.
Samsung Heavy Industries has secured orders this month for a total of six vessels—one LNG-FSRU (floating storage and regasification unit) and five LNG carriers—worth 2.3595 trillion won.
In the LNG carrier sector, it surpassed last year’s annual order tally of 11 ships before the first half ended.
A Samsung Heavy Industries official said, “As geopolitical instability originating in the Middle East grows, the importance of energy security and supply chain diversification is increasing, and demand for high-efficiency LNG carriers is also rising,” adding, “We will maintain our order momentum based on our proven LNG carrier construction capabilities and quality competitiveness.”
Samsung Heavy Industries’ cumulative orders this year total 22 ships, worth $4.7 billion. By ship type, the tally includes 12 LNG carriers (including one LNG-FSRU), two ethane carriers, two gas carriers, two container carriers, and four crude oil carriers.
