A 26-year-old silver artisan was allegedly beaten to death in Agra late Sunday night in what police described as a revenge killing linked to an earlier dispute involving the accused’s elder brother.
The victim, identified as Harsh Jain, was rushed to SN Medical College by family members on the night of May 10, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
According to ADCP (Crime) Himanshu Gaurav, police investigations revealed that Jain had allegedly been assaulted by Deva Mahaur and another individual.
“Upon reaching the hospital, it was revealed that an individual named Deva Mahaur and an associate had assaulted Jain,” Gaurav said. “A murder case has been registered under BNS Section 103(1), based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Dinesh Jain. The accused, Mahaur, is in custody, and further legal action is underway.”
Police said the violence stemmed from a minor altercation earlier involving Jain and Mahaur’s elder brother, who were reportedly known to each other.
According to Chatta police station officer Ankur Malik, the dispute escalated after Jain allegedly assaulted Mahaur’s brother during an argument. Enraged by the incident, Mahaur later tracked Jain down in the Dhuliyaganj area and allegedly carried out the fatal attack.
Investigators are now working to identify and arrest other suspects believed to have been involved in the assault.
Jain is survived by his parents, his wife and their three-year-old daughter.
