BENGALURU: An Indian Air Force officer and his wife have alleged that they were assaulted by an auto driver, a passenger, and a group of men during a road rage incident near Jalahalli Cross in Bengaluru.
According to the complaint, the couple had gone to a showroom on Tumakuru Road on the night of May 2 to buy a microwave oven. However, as the store was closing, they were asked to return the following day.
Police said the couple had parked their vehicle some distance away because of heavy traffic and were walking back when the confrontation began. The officer alleged that they requested an auto driver to make space for pedestrians, which reportedly angered a passenger inside the vehicle.
The situation soon escalated into an argument, with the auto driver and passenger allegedly abusing and threatening the couple. Even after the officer and his wife attempted to leave the spot, one of the men allegedly picked up a tree branch and attacked him.
The complaint further stated that a group of six to seven men later joined the assault, chased the couple, and attacked the officer, while his wife was allegedly pushed and hit during the incident.
The accused reportedly fled in the auto after the officer attempted to seek help. The complaint was lodged on May 5, following which the Bagalagunte police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
