A youth football game in Fort Myers turned chaotic on Saturday after a fight between young players escalated into an incident involving an adult spectator, leading to the arrest of a Florida mother.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Renee Lambert was arrested after allegedly running onto the field at Brooks Park during a scuffle between children and kicking one of the players.
Deputies had already been dispatched to the game after reports of a fight among players. However, authorities said the situation quickly intensified when Lambert became involved.
Investigators said the incident began shortly after a play when tensions flared among players on the field. Lambert allegedly entered the crowd of children and kicked one of the young athletes during the altercation.
Lambert later claimed that a child had struck her with a football helmet first. However, after reviewing video footage of the incident, investigators said they found no evidence supporting her account.
Bodycam footage released after the arrest showed Lambert arguing with deputies and attempting to walk away as officers tried to detain her.
“Get your hands off me,” she repeatedly shouted, insisting she had been the victim. At one point, she asked officers, “So you’re mad at them for hitting me?”
One deputy responded, “I’m mad at an adult for attacking a kid.”
When officers informed her that she was being detained as a suspect, Lambert continued resisting and demanded officers “go get number nine,” apparently referring to the player she accused of hitting her. An officer replied, “A kid? You’re an adult.”
Authorities eventually restrained and arrested her at the scene.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno later condemned the incident, saying, “It’s sad that children playing sports becomes a physical confrontation. We need to have law and order. We need to protect everyone. So as sheriff, I’m not going to tolerate it.”
Booking records show Lambert was taken into custody around 8:50 pm local time and released shortly after midnight on Sunday.
She now faces charges of child abuse without great bodily harm and resisting an officer. Lambert is scheduled to appear in court on June 1.
The incident, captured on video and widely shared online, has sparked criticism and renewed concerns over adult behavior at youth sporting events, with many calling for parents and spectators to set better examples around children’s sports.
