A special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation in Lucknow has convicted Jishan Khan in connection with the 2015 killing of a police inspector, sentencing him to 10 years in prison along with a fine of ₹9,000.

The case relates to the death of Inspector Anil Kumar, who was serving as SHO of Kotwali police station in Pratapgarh at the time of the incident in 2015.

The probe was handed over to the CBI on June 29, 2018, following directions from the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow Bench in connection with the Arti Gujar vs State of UP case. The original FIR had been registered under Section 302 of the IPC against unknown persons.

After investigation, the agency filed a chargesheet against two accused—Jishan Khan and Bocha alias Raju Soni. The court took cognisance in February 2021 and formally framed charges in December 2022.

During the trial, Jishan Khan submitted a written confession on April 4, leading the court to separate his case from the main trial and register it as a new proceeding. Based on the confession and supporting evidence, the Special Judge, CBI, delivered the conviction on May 2.

Further proceedings in the case against the second accused are expected to continue.
