LUCKNOW: At least eight people lost their lives and several others were injured early Monday when a speeding car rammed into a group of bystanders who had gathered to help victims of an earlier motorcycle accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkar Nagar district.

Police said the first accident occurred around midnight on the Akbarpur–Jalalpur road near Ashrafpur Bhuwa brick kiln under Jalalpur police station limits, where two motorcycles collided head-on. Both riders were critically injured, prompting locals and passersby to rush to the scene and assist in rescue efforts, including arranging transport to a nearby hospital.

Moments later, a car approaching from the Jalalpur side allegedly lost control at high speed and veered into the crowd of rescuers and onlookers. The vehicle struck several people standing along the roadside, leaving multiple victims seriously injured.

According to Superintendent of Police Prachi Singh, police teams responding to emergency calls reached the spot and, with the help of locals, shifted the injured to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Jalalpur. Doctors there declared six people dead on arrival, while two critically injured victims were referred to the district hospital and later to Tanda Medical College, where they succumbed during treatment, raising the death toll to eight.

The deceased have been identified as Kaifi (32), Uttam Kumar (24), Aditya Kumar (25), Lalchand (24), Raju Gupta (32), and Chhotu, along with two unidentified men aged around 35 and 32. Efforts are ongoing to confirm the identities of the unidentified victims.

Police have initiated inquest proceedings and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. Authorities are also working to trace the driver of the car and determine the exact circumstances that led to the crash.

Senior officials said the situation at the site is now under control, and further legal action is underway.
