At least four people were killed and nearly 70 others injured after fresh clashes erupted along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border, with the Taliban accusing Pakistani forces of carrying out cross-border shelling in Kunar province.
According to Taliban officials, the strikes hit residential areas as well as Syed Jamaluddin Afghani University in Asadabad. Several women, children and students were reported among the injured, raising concerns over civilian casualties.
The Taliban strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a serious violation and alleging it amounted to a war crime. Pakistan, however, rejected the accusations, calling them baseless propaganda and asserting that any military action is strictly targeted at militant groups operating near the border.
The escalation comes at a sensitive time, with ongoing efforts aimed at easing tensions between the two neighbours. The latest violence has cast doubt over those peace initiatives and heightened fears of renewed instability in the already volatile frontier region.
