Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in St Petersburg for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as diplomatic efforts intensify to address the ongoing regional crisis.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the visit follows Araghchi’s recent engagements in Oman and Pakistan, part of Tehran’s broader attempt to build international support for de-escalation. Reports suggest Iran has also conveyed a “new proposal” to the United States focused on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending the conflict, while postponing nuclear negotiations.

The flight carrying Araghchi reportedly used the callsign “Minab 168,” referencing children killed in a strike earlier this year in southern Iran.

Russia’s foreign ministry confirmed the visit, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stating that Putin is expected to meet Araghchi to discuss the evolving regional situation. Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, said the talks would centre on ceasefire prospects, negotiations, and broader developments in the Middle East.

The visit underscores continued coordination between Moscow and Tehran since the start of hostilities.
