KALYAN: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday said a series of major infrastructure projects—including Metro corridors, ring roads, and double-decker transport systems—are underway to ease chronic congestion in the Kalyan-Dombivli region.

Speaking at an MCHI property exhibition, Shinde stressed that the government is focusing on long-term mobility solutions while also urging developers to coordinate closely with authorities and ensure housing remains affordable.

“Ambitious projects such as Metro connectivity, ring roads, double-decker roads, and new link corridors are underway. These will significantly reduce traffic issues in the future,” he said.

Metro expansion to boost connectivity

Shinde noted that work on Metro Line-5—connecting Thane and Bhiwandi—is nearing completion, with tenders for its extension to Kalyan expected soon. The Metro, he said, will play a key role in reducing road traffic and improving regional connectivity.

Double-decker corridor to decongest key route

Addressing congestion on the busy Kalyan–Shilphata Road, Shinde highlighted a proposed multi-level corridor from Ranjnoli to Mhape. The project will feature a road at ground level, a flyover above it, and a Metro line on top—supported by specially designed tall pillars.

Ring road project to cut internal congestion

The government is also pushing ahead with a ring road project aimed at easing pressure on internal roads across Kalyan-Dombivli. Shinde directed officials to speed up land acquisition and restart stalled work, noting that the project will help eliminate major traffic bottlenecks once completed.

Focus on water and urban infrastructure

Beyond transport, Shinde said efforts are ongoing to strengthen civic infrastructure, including long-term water supply planning through the Kalu Dam project to support the area’s rapidly growing population.

With urbanisation continuing at a fast pace, residents have long struggled with traffic congestion. Officials believe these combined infrastructure initiatives could bring meaningful relief in the coming years.
