At least 11 people were killed in a devastating multi-vehicle collision in the Dramandganj area of Mirzapur late Wednesday evening. The accident, involving two trucks, a car, and an SUV, occurred on a steep stretch of the hill road around 9 pm and led to a massive fire.
Mirzapur Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushik confirmed the death toll, stating that seven victims were occupants of the SUV who were charred after the vehicle caught fire. The drivers of the car and one of the trucks were also among the deceased, while two victims are yet to be identified.
According to officials, a truck descending from Rewa allegedly suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. The truck first collided with a car climbing uphill. Moments later, another truck rammed into the car from behind. Amid the chaos, a speeding SUV also moving uphill crashed into the truck.
The impact triggered an immediate fire in the SUV, trapping all seven occupants inside. Eyewitnesses said the passengers tried to escape, but a sudden explosion engulfed the vehicle in flames within seconds.
Additional Director General (Varanasi Zone) Piyush Mordia said multiple teams—including two circle officers, five station house officers, and fire tenders—were deployed for rescue operations. Police and fire personnel rushed to the scene, but by the time the blaze was brought under control, the victims inside the SUV had succumbed.
The incident led to panic and traffic disruption along the Mirzapur–Madhya Pradesh highway, as local residents attempted to assist before emergency services arrived.
