A daring daylight robbery shocked Singrauli on Friday, when five armed men looted gold and cash worth over ₹5 crore from a branch of Bank of Maharashtra in just 15 minutes.

Swift and coordinated attack

The incident took place between 12:50 pm and 1:05 pm on Vindhyanagar Road near Tiger Inn Hotel. According to police, the robbery appeared highly planned and executed with precision.

Superintendent of Police Manish Khatri said the gang—armed and coordinated—entered the bank in phases. Two men initially stormed in, holding staff and customers at gunpoint, before three more accomplices joined them.

Shot fired, customer injured

To create panic and assert control, the robbers fired a shot in the air. A spent cartridge was later recovered from the scene. One customer suffered minor injuries during the chaos.

The gang then assaulted staff and forced access to the cash counter and lockers containing pledged gold—assets deposited by customers against loans.

Loot and escape

Preliminary estimates suggest the robbers fled with:

  • Gold worth approximately ₹5 crore
  • Cash amounting to ₹20 lakh

While one accused had his face covered, others did not attempt to conceal their identities.

Investigation underway

CCTV cameras captured the entire sequence, including the entry and exit of the suspects. Police and forensic teams reached the spot soon after, and a large-scale manhunt has been launched.

Checkpoints have been set up across the district, and investigators are analysing surveillance footage to identify and track down the accused.

Officials say early findings point to a pre-planned operation, and efforts are underway to apprehend those involved.
