MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has completed a transfer of ownership from founder Captain Gianluigi Aponte to his children Diego and Alexa Aponte in the last quarter of 2025, according to the company.

The move formalises a generational shift at the Geneva-based liner group, placing control of the business with Diego Aponte, group president, and Alexa Aponte, group chief financial officer, both Italian nationals raised and resident in Switzerland.

The transition consolidates ownership within the founding family and secures continuity at the top of one of the world’s крупнейших контейнерных перевозчиков, with the next generation already embedded in operational and financial leadership.

Captain Gianluigi Aponte will remain executive chairman, retaining oversight as the group continues to focus on its core ocean freight business.

“I am incredibly proud of this historic moment. Passing ownership to my children is not only a reflection of their dedication and achievements, but also a continuation of our family’s centuries long maritime heritage. With Diego and Alexa at the helm, I am confident that our Group will continue to thrive and honour our family’s legacy of innovation, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the sea.”
