TIRUPATI: A 19-year-old man allegedly killed a 16-year-old girl in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district after she refused his repeated marriage proposals, police said on Friday.
The incident occurred in Agraharam village under Khazipet mandal. The accused, identified as Venkatesh from Anjaneya Kottala village, had reportedly been harassing the minor for some time, pressuring her to marry him. Despite her clear refusal and insistence on marrying someone chosen by her parents, he continued to pursue her.
On Friday morning, when the girl was alone at home, Venkatesh allegedly entered the house and confronted her again over the issue. The argument escalated, and he attacked her with a knife, inflicting a fatal throat injury before fleeing the scene.
Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed her to a nearby hospital and attempted to shift her to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Kadapa. However, she succumbed to excessive bleeding.
Police registered a case and sent the body to RIMS-Kadapa for post-mortem. The accused was apprehended within hours while attempting to escape.
Following the incident, the girl’s family, relatives, and members of women’s groups staged protests in Khazipet, demanding strict punishment for the accused and justice for the victim.
